The training of English professionals from a high scientific, didactical, cultural, communicative and developing perspective in current times requires a broad and deep theoretical and practical knowledge, so that they can be dynamically inserted in the working style of the different educational subsystems committed with the students' formation and the society as well. This paper addresses a relevant issue, that one concerning the improvement policy of the English Language Teaching in the Cuban university context for sustainable development, revealing the features, content and actions of this policy designed and implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education in the Cuban universities and the partnership of the British Council, the specialists of English Language from the Associations of Cuban Pedagogues and the Cuban Linguists. The emergence of the enhancement policy has the source in the current situation of the English language teaching characterized by insufficient development of communicative competences, little motivation for the study of the English language and dissatisfaction in the Cuban professional's formation to communicate professionally in English after graduation.
