Abstract

The fishing sector is of the utmost importance for the Ecuadorian economy since it is one of the three sectors that contributes positively to the dynamics of the country's growth. Due to the recent pandemic, Ecuador, like many countries, registered a decrease in the economy, however, fishing registered an interannual growth for the period 2021-I of 16%, contributing 0.11 points to the dynamics of the economy in this period. period. In this sector, energy efficiency in fishing vessels is an issue of great importance and that not enough progress has been made in Ecuador, due to the high costs of implementing more efficient equipment, which are rejected by investors. It is known that the ships with the equipment they have consume more energy, which constitutes an additional economic expense by consuming more energy (Diesel) to carry out the same jobs. In view of the fact that decisions are made around the most economical and functional options in the vessels, this article proposes strategies aimed at reducing the energy consumption of these vessels, using the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) and the Energy Efficiency Plan. Ship Energy Efficiency Management (SEEMP) proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to measure the amount of fuel that can be saved by the vessel, which will reduce the energy consumption of the vessel and with it the emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in this sector.
