Oral health prevention based on the educational strengthening of family medicine and primary care units

The novelty of research on preventive oral health based on the multidisciplinary participation of family medicine and primary care units lies in the need to approach oral health from a comprehensive perspective, involving different health professionals in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Although this idea is not new, in recent years it has become more relevant due to the increase in the prevalence of oral diseases and their impact on people's quality of life. In addition, it has been shown that the implementation of multidisciplinary educational strategies in oral health prevention can have a positive impact on reducing the prevalence of oral diseases and improving the quality of life of the population, which has generated a growing interest in this approach by researchers and health professionals. The population is the total set of patients attending the ISSSTE automated screening diagnostic clinic in the city of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The sample is a representative subset of that population, 500 randomly selected patients who have attended the clinic in the last 6 months and who have been diagnosed with an oral health problem. In addition, it was possible to verify that research on this topic can contribute to improve the process of strengthening preventive oral health in the institution.
