Keywords:
nutrition education, medical competencies, assessmentAbstract
This article evaluates the medical competencies in nutrition education of medical interns in social service at the Medicine program of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Quintana Roo. The study reviewed the interns' training, clinical and therapeutic management, counseling and recommendations, and use of clinical practice guidelines in nutrition. Data were collected and analyzed using surveys, interviews, observations, and mixed methods. The results show that the interns lack adequate training and skills in nutrition and face obstacles in applying effective didactic strategies and performance evaluation. This study suggests the need to improve the medical competencies in nutrition education of medical interns in social service to ensure quality medical care and promote healthy lifestyles. The preliminary findings also indicate the importance of implementing and overcoming the challenges in nutrition education. These findings can inform the improvement of medical care and the adoption of healthy lifestyles
